Kayak Snorkelling Tour – May 3

Kayak Snorkelling Tour – May 3

Kayak Snorkelling Tour

Check out this. We just had another awesome day kayaking out to the coral reef that lies off Double Island. This is in fact part of the Great Barrier Reef, and is also the closest piece of the reef that you can get to from the coast line in the Cairns Northern Beaches area.

It’s a short kayak from Palm Cove to the reef. We head out to the reef at around 7am and get there 20 -30 minutes later.  This is an experience not to be missed.

Kayak Snorkelling is certainly a great a great way to see the Great Barrier Reef in the Far North Queensland.  Up here at Palm Cove we are truly lucky to have the Great Barrier Reef right on our door step.  There is no where else in the Far North Queensland where you can access coral reef snorkelling so quickly.  We are the only place where you can just jump on one of our kayak tours and go snorkelling at the same time.

So what are you waiting for?  Come on down experience snorkelling and our amazing Kayak Turtle Tours out at the closest area of the Great Barrier Reef in the Cairns Northern Beaches area.

Hey everyone, over the last couple of months we’ve taken some great pics on our Palm Cove Kayaking Tours, heading out to Double Island. Double Island has a lot to offer from all it’s marine life to it beautiful surrounding reefs. We have been running tours out to Double Island for 4 years now and we never get bored with it. Everyday is a new adventure and full of surprises. Over the years, being a guides in the area, we’ve got to know the area pretty well and i guess our passion is in sharing our knowledge and those experiences with the people that make our job so great.

Check out some of these photos we took on our Palm Cove Kayaking Tours

Wow Palm Cove Kayaking Tours don’t get much better than this!

This Picture here was taken heading back over from one of our Palm Cove Kayaking Tours. This particular part of the reef is great for snorkelling. The Coral is thriving and we often see turtles here. It’s is also amazing to kayak above! We ofter see turtles, rays and different fish swimming under the kayaks.

The cave is probably my favourite part

This limestone cave is an exhilarating experience. It really pays to have an experienced guide with you when entering this cave. The entrance to the cave can fill up if swell comes through from the north side. Here at pacific watersports we know Double Island better than anyone and all out guides know the best, safest way to enter the cave.

Rugged Little Island

Haycock Island, also know as Scouts Hat is a rugged little island to the southeast of Double Island. It is believed that the Americans used to test their explosives and ammunition on the island giving it the odd shape it is today. If the conditions are right we often stop on Haycock Island for a short break during our Palm Cove Kayaking Tours.

Just another perfect day in FNQ 🙂

This pic was take heading around the western side of Double Island from the north. The is a Resort located on this part os the island. Being privately owned, we aren’t actually allowed on the island. We are however allowed up to the high tide line on the beach, which mean there’s still plenty to explore by foot.

The sand bar on the south side of the island is a great place to pull up and have a break during our kayaking tours. This is where we often see Shovel Nose Sharks and small rays feeding in the shallows. It’s also the perfect place for all the small juveniles to hide out from the big baddies 😉

Parking

parking can be an issue at Palm Cove, especially during school holidays and weekends. If you Can’t find a park along the esplanade, your best bet is to head in a block and find a park there. Or if you want to be cheeky, you can always park at one of the resorts.

Travelling across the sea from Pam Cove beach to Double Island by paddleboard or kayak is an amazing experience.  First of all, the conditions need to be right for this to happen. Thats why we always head over on nice calm days or first thing in the morning before the wind gets up. The first thing you see when you get to Double Island is the coral reef. It comes out of nowhere and with it, an abundance of marine life.  (more…)

In this article I will be writing about my experience kayaking in Palm Cove, and why it’s for everyone!

I recently went on a guided Double Island kayak tour with Pacific Water Sports. It was my first time kayaking (well I did it as a kid but I don’t remember much!) and at first I found it quite hard! (more…)
