I have recently been on a Cairns Kayak Tour. And what an experience it was! It was my first time kayaking and I absolutely loved it, so much so that I thought I would write a blog about my Kayaking experience.

Double Island Kayak Tours

Pacific Water Sports offer their services in the Cairns region, and the Kayak Tour that I was part of left from Palm Cove, and ventured around Double Island.

We met at 7am on Palm Cove beach and were given an intro lesson by our friendly instructors, Ramez and Luke.  We were given life jackets, water and sun screen, and got the run down on how to use the paddles. I was paired up in a double kayak and we were on our way.

It took a little while to get used to the kayak and to get into a rhythm with my partner, but once we had the rhythm, we were away! It took us about 25 minutes to get over to the reef just in front of double island, and our instructor Ramez told us a lot of cool facts about the area.

Cairns Kayak Tours – Perfect conditions for wildlife spotting!

We were very lucky with the conditions the day I went on my Cairns Kayak Tour, the water was crystal clear and I was able to spot a turtle and a sting ray as we cruised over the reef.

We then paddled around the right side of the island, where the conditions were a little bit choppier, but it was a fun challenge getting into the rhythm again, and we soon came to the small beach on the other side of the island, where we had a rest and snacked on the fruit the tour guides had brought us.  I loved looking at all the interesting shapes of the coral that had been washed up on the beach.

The Cave

Once we were rested, we took off for the final part of our tour.  We stopped at a cool cave on the way back, but unfortunately the tide was too high so we couldn’t go and have a look inside.  When the conditions are right, Ramez takes willing people into the cave to have a look!

The final stretch home was the hardest.. My arms and shoulders were starting to hurt! But the thought of an ice-cream on palm cove beach was enough to power me through!

Cairns Kayak Tours Are Highly recommended

I enjoyed my Kayaking experience so much, that i have recently been on the tour again, taking some of my other friends along.  I would highly recommend it to anyone. Cairns offers such perfect kayaking locations, as this tour of double island is amongst the best in the area.
